Twelve filmmakers from different European countries will work together to strengthen their writing and directing skills.
Directors Village is organised by CineSud in collaboration with Screen Talent Europe partners.
Directors Village 2026
Would you like to work thoroughly on your short film script, director’s vision and directing actors? Submit your project and become a part of the Directors Village during Euregion Film Forum 2026. Twelve filmmakers from different countries will be selected to take part in the residency training program, designed and developed by CineSud and organised in collaboration with Screen Talent Europe.
Directors Village is a 5-day on-site European residency training program to enhance and develop the skills of the directors-writers and help you prepare for your next (short film) project. During the Directors Village you’ll work intensively on script development, refining your director’s vision, and collaborating with actors. The week includes expert-led group sessions, coaching, and networking events to help you bring your project to the next level.
Previous projects developed within Directors Village were selected for prestigious film festivals such as Venice International Film Festival, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and Cork Film Festival.

Program
Directors Village 2026 will take place March 18-22 in Heerlen and Maastricht, the Netherlands. The residency will be held in English.
Coaches for the 2026 edition are Sofia Norlin from Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH), multiple Oscar-winner Martin Strange-Hansen (Denmark) and Dutch fiction- and series-director Janneke van Heesch (the Netherlands). They will guide the participants through the 5-day on-site training program.

Meet the Coaches
Coaches for the 2026 edition are Sofia Norlin (Sweden) from Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH), multiple Oscar-winner Martin Strange-Hansen (Denmark) and Dutch fiction- and series-director Janneke van Heesch.
Sofia Norlin
Sofia Norlin (Director, Sweden) has lived in Paris since 1994 and works with film and theatre in both countries. Senior lecturer in film directing at Stockholm University of the Arts (since 2020) and writer/podcaster for the Swedish film review POV (since 2016), she also directs educative-social projects in the Parisian suburbs (since 2002) with teenagers and newcomers from wars. At the theatre she’s been an assistant for Ariane Mnouchkine/Théâtre du Soleil and for Wajdi Mouawad. In 2005 her short Les Courants (The Currents) was awarded the French Authors’ Association’s prize Beaumarchais. In 2014 her feature debut Ömheten (Broken Hill Blues) premiered in Berlin film festival. This film was awarded a 500k grant as a script from the Stockholm Film Festival and the film received the Swedish Film Award for Best Cinematography. Sofia was nominated Best New Director. She now prepares her new feature Riviera - co-written with Jean-Pol Fargeau, co-writer of most Claire Denis films - that will take place through large parts of Europe and will be shot from February 2024.
Janneke van Heesch
Janneke van Heesch holds a Master’s in Film Studies from the University of Amsterdam and graduated as a film director from the Netherlands Film Academy. She has since directed commercials, short films, TV series, and feature films, spanning experimental, art house, comedy, and children’s genres. Her films have screened at international festivals and aired in several European countries. She also works as a directing coach at the Netherlands Film Academy, specialising in script development and directing actors.
Martin Strange-Hansen
Martin Strange-Hansen is a Danish director and scriptwriter, deeply involved in talent-development in Denmark as a returning Commisioning editor at Filmworkshop Copenhagen, Århus and Odense and by educational efforts at filmschools like The National Danish Filmschool, Station Next, Potemkin Film, Panorama Academy, Filmmaskinen & European Film College. A Graduate from The National Danish Film school. Former president & Vice president of the association of Danish Filmdirectors & Head of Programme at OFF Odense Filmfestival. Oscar winner in 2003 with the short film This Charming Man and Oscar nominee in 2022 with the short film On my mind.

Organisation
Directors Village is a unique training program organised by CineSud. The program is organised in collaboration with our dear partners of Screen Talent Europe: Aarhus Film Workshop, Ardán, CineNord, FilmCloud, Film Stockholm, GMAC, Mediefabrikken, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, Odense Film Workshop and Tvibit Film.
Screen Talent Europe is a network of film workshops and media centres in Europe. The purpose of the network is to promote and foster co-operation between partners, help filmmakers exchange knowledge, experiences and methods through talent camps, network meetings and co-productions. The network collaborates to produce international talent development projects such as pitching forums, film production camps, networking and social events. Furthermore, Screen Talent Europe works to strengthen the workshop model for support-based talent development and also assists countries in Europe currently without film workshops in developing similar resources and models.
