In the fourth edition of our monthly column we present some interesting festival- and funding options whose submission deadlines are all in October. Maybe there will be just the right thing for you!

Finding your way

As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Dublin International Film Festival

Submission deadline: October 1
Festival dates: February 26 - March 8

DIFF curates and presents the best in emerging International and Irish film and moving image culture for a wide audience through its flagship annual festival, along with a range of year-round events. Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: October 7
Festival dates: January 31 - February 8

Today, the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival is the world's largest film festival dedicated to short films. In terms of audience and professional presence, it is the second largest film festival in France after Cannes. The festival is at the heart of many activities and missions conducted all year long by the collective Sauve qui peut le court métrage. [Read more]

Limburg Film Festival

Submission deadline: October 15
Festival dates: January 10 - January 12

Limburg has a rich film culture, with makers who enjoy national and international fame for example the two Oscar winners Mike van Diem (Sittard) and Marleen Gorris (Roermond), but also various Golden Calf winners, such as Remy van Heugten (Heerlen), Michiel ten Horn (Horst) and Jim Taihuttu (Venlo). Next January the fourth edition of the Limburg Film Festival takes place in Venlo. A festival that aims to make visible the special Limburg film culture. [Read more]

International Film Festival Rotterdam

Submission deadline: October 15 (only features)
Festival dates: January 22 - February 2

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival's focus is on recent work by talented new filmmakers. However, within the four sections the Festival presents, there is also room for retrospectives and themed programmes. [Read more]

Miami International Film Festival

Submission deadline: October 15
Festival dates: March 6 - March 15

Miami Film Festival is a celebration of thought-provoking international cinema for a diverse audience of movie lovers. The Festival has hosted and introduced a diverse group of filmmakers including renowned filmmakers Luc Besson, Alfonso Cuarón, Werner Herzog, Spike Lee or Paul Verhoeven. [Read more]
