Finding your way

As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Cairo International Film Festival

The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) is one of the only 15 festivals accorded as a category "A" status by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations FIAPF. Dublin International Film Festival

Festival dates: February 26 - March 8

Palm Springs International Film Festival

Festival dates: January 2 - January 13

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in North America, welcoming over 135,000 attendees each year for its lineup of new and celebrated international features and documentaries. The Festival is also known for its annual Film Awards Gala, honoring the best achievements of the filmic year by a celebrated list of talents. Torino Film Festival

Festival dates: November 22 - November 30

The Torino Film Festival’s purpose is to constitute a meeting point for contemporary international cinema and to provide the opportunity for a discussion on all its perspectives and artistic trends. The Festival pays particular attention to emerging cinemas and young filmmakers. Stockholm International Film Festival

Festival dates: November 6 - November 17

Stockholm International Film Festival started in 1990 and is one of the largest cultural events in the Nordic region. During twelve intense days in November the festival presents 150 premieres from more than 60 countries. All together several hundred program items including screenings, seminars , Face2Face, Red Carpet-screenings and parties are organised. The festival is visited by hundreds of film makers and since its inception, celebrities like Francis Ford Coppola, Susan Sarandon, Luc Besson, Lauren Bacall, Ang Lee, Gena Rowlands, Roman Polanski and Quentin Tarantino have visited the festival and met the audience at the cinemas. Flickerfest International Short Film Festival

Flickerfest began as a small local festival at the Balmain High School in 1991. Since then it has grown to become Australia’s leading Academy® accredited & BAFTA recognised competitive Australian & International Short Film Festival with 1000’s of entries coming from filmmakers across the globe. Prague Short Film Festival

Prague Short Films Festival is organized by Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary, organizer of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The best and most inspiring short films from all over the world head towards the Czech capital. The audience will have the opportunity to watch dozens of films in traditional sections - the international competition, the overview program of current Czech cinema, the experimental films section Labo and the late night Brutal Relax Show.
