Finding your way
As a filmmaker, some things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.
Film Festivals
DocFest - San Francisco Documentary Festival
Submission deadline: April 1
Festival dates: June 4 - June 18
SF Indiefest is a year-round, non-profit organization that has been operating since 1998. They present four annual festivals: the SF Independent Film Festival (SF Indie for short), the SF Documentary Festival (DocFest for short), the SF Independent Short Film Festival (IndieShorts) and Another Hole in the Head, their genre film festival. Odesa International Film Festival
Submission deadline: April 17
Festival dates: July 10 - July 18
Odesa International Film Festival is the festival which has one of the largest audiences in Eastern Europe. It is an annual film festival held in cinema capital of Ukraine – Odesa. [Read more]
Lessina Film Festival
Submission deadline: April 30
Festival dates: August 21 - August 30
The Lessinia Film Festival is the only Italian cinematographic competition dedicated exclusively to short films, documentaries, and full length features about the life, history and traditions of the mountains. It excludes from competition, however, works dealing with sport and mountain climbing. [Read more]
Salento International Film Festival
Submission deadline: April 30
Festival dates: September 2 - September 6
The Salento International Film Festival has become an International event thanks to its "touring" concept, which started with film screenings in London at the Prince Charles Cinema (the only independent cinema in Central London) back in 2010. Since then SIFF Tour has presented many independent films around the world in cities like Zurich, Moscow, St Petersburg, Hong Kong, Santiago del Chile, Yerevan, Oslo, Reykjavik and more. [Read more]
São Paulo International Short Film Festival
Submission deadline: April 30
Festival dates: August 20 - August 30
São Paulo International Short Film Festival is one of the world's largest and most traditional events dedicated to short films. Held in the city of São Paulo since 1990, it has become a landmark in the city's cultural agenda for its broad and diverse programming, which is screened free of charge at several theaters and cultural centers in São Paulo.
