In this edition of our monthly column we present some interesting festival- and funding options whose submission deadlines are all in August. Have a look!

Finding your way

As a filmmaker, some things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Film Fest Gent

Submission deadline: August 1
Festival dates: October 13 - October 21

Film Fest Gent was founded in 1974 and has since developed into one of Europe's most prominent film events. Every year in October, the festival presents some 80 features and 50 shorts from all over the world. A range of different film programmes are showcased, attracting over 130,000 viewers each year. With its focus on film music, the festival has its own unique place among international festivals. [Read more]

Izmir International Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: August 3
Festival dates: November 2 - November 7

Izmir International Short Film Festival has been holding its place as being one of the greatest movie events in Turkey and it will meet with its audience for the 20th time this year. The festival began to show its movies in 2000 and since then it has been one of the most esteemed festivals among movie lovers. [Read more]

SHIFT Film Festival

Submission deadline: August 10
Festival dates: September 11 - September 12

CineSud celebrates the sixth edition of the SHIFT Film Festival and we do so in spite, and maybe especially because, of the crazy times that 2020 has brought us so far. Philadelphia Film Festival

Submission deadline: August 17
Festival dates: October 22 - November 1

As a world-class film festival, PFF represents a major contribution to the cultural life of the city and region. It presents, on average, more than 100 films and draws industry guests and panelists and fosters an interactive community of film professionals and supporters. [Read more]

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Submission deadline: August 24
Festival dates: November 13 - November 29

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80 000 people annually. [Read more]

London Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: August 24
Festival dates: January 15 - January 23

A platform for independent short filmmaking and the eclecticism of its many forms and voices, each year the BAFTA Qualifying London Short Film Festival curates over 500 short works from across the world. [Read more]
