Finding your way
As a filmmaker, some things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Hamptons International Film Festival
Submission deadline: May 12
Festival dates: October 8 - October 12
HamptonsFilm was founded in 1992 to celebrate the art of film and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to the audiences with an annual film festival each October. The annual film festival, recently referred to by Variety as “one of America’s most glamorous displays of the best in cutting-edge cinema,” continues to play an important role during awards season, with a significant number of titles highlighted every year at the Academy Awards. Milano Film Festival
Submission deadline: May 22
Festival dates: October 2 - October 8
Milano Film Festival has been a production by esterni since 1996. For over twenty years, they have been the major cinema event in the city; a platform for international independent cinema that risks, experiments, tries and finds new ways. [Read more]
Sarajevo Film Festival
Submission deadline: May 23
Festival dates: August 14 - August 21
High quality programming, a strong industry segment, an educational and networking platform for young filmmakers and thus generated presence of the international film industry, film authors and media representatives alongside a paying audience of over 100,000, confirm its status as the leading film festival in the region, recognised by both professionals and the wider audiences. Locarno Festival

Festival dates: August 5 - August 15
Throughout its 72 year history, the Locarno Film Festival has occupied a unique position in the landscape of the major film festivals. Every August, for eleven days the Swiss-Italian town of Locarno, right in the heart of Europe, becomes the world capital of auteur cinema. Uppsala International Short Film Festival
Submission deadline: May 31
Festival dates: October 19 - October 25
Founded in 1982, Uppsala Short Film Festival has since become Sweden's premier arena for short film and one of the most important short film festivals in Europe. Every year the festival screens more than 300 short films in different sections exploring the diversity and richness of the short film – from new film to retrospective programmes, from fiction film, documentaries and experimental film to animations.
