Finding your way

As a filmmaker, some things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Palm Springs International Film Festival

Submission deadline: November 1
Festival dates: February 25 - March 8

As of today the Palm Springs International Film Festival is in its third decade and the has come full circle, commanding huge media coverage annually, drawing major stars, attracting an attendance base that places it among the top three festivals in America, and boasting a film lineup widely respected for its breadth and scope. Internationales Filmwochenende Würzburg

Submission deadline: November 2
Festival dates: January 28 - January 31

When the Filminitiative Würzburg e.V. and thus the International Film Weekend was founded in 1974, the cinema situation in Würzburg was still quite different in many respects. Nowadays, with around 10,000 visitors over a four day period and about 60 films as well as a number of special events, The Internationale Filmwochenende Würzburg is one of the largest such events in Germany. Syndey Flickerfest

Submission deadline: November 6
Festival dates: January 15- January 26

Flickerfest began as a small local festival at the Balmain High School in 1991. Since then it has grown to become Australia’s leading Academy® accredited & BAFTA recognised competitive Australian & International Short Film Festival with 1000’s of entries coming from filmmakers across the globe. [Read more]

Festival International de Films de Femmes

Submission deadline: November 15
Festival dates: April 2 - April 11

The International Women's Film Festival has been organized for the last 29 years at the Maison des Arts de Créteil where it plunges its roots in a social, economic and human environment of great richness and complexity- a great annual, one of the kinds festival, whose mission is that of discovering and promoting female film directors from all over the world. [Read more]

Cinequest Film & VR Festival

Submission deadline: November 18
Festival dates: March 2- March 14

The Golden Globe Awards

Submission deadline: November 30
Festival dates: February 28

The first awards presentation for distinguished achievements in the film industry granted by Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association - the precursor of today's Hollywood Foreign Press Association - took place in early 1944 with an informal ceremony at 20th Century Fox. Today, the Golden Globes recognize achievements in 25 categories; 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television. [Read more]
