In this edition of our monthly column you will find interesting festival- and funding options with submission deadlines in July. Have a look!

Finding your way

As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

That's why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival

Submission deadline: July 1 (extended)
Festival dates: October 8 - October 16

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, celebrating its 30th Anniversary October 6th-October 18th is the oldest non-fiction festival in North America. HSDFF offers multiple awards categories, and is a designated Academy-Award© -qualifying festival for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Documentary Short Subject. [Read more]

Cork International Film Festival

Submission deadline: July 16 (late)
Festival dates: November 4 - November 14

The Festival welcomes submissions of features and shorts, and all forms of film production – fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, etc. We look for interesting new voices and work that pushes boundaries and takes risks. We champion new voices and celebrate excellence in filmmaking throughout our programme. We also recognise filmmakers’ achievements through our nine Awards, three of which are Academy Award qualifying.
Applicants to the 2021 submissions platform will be notified of the outcome of their submission in September 2021. [Read more]

New York Shorts International Film Festival

Submission deadline: July 23
Festival dates: October 22 - October 28

New York Shorts International Film Festival is one of the largest showcases of short films in North America and an ideal platform for filmmakers to screen their films and gain recognition in New York City. NY Shorts events include receptions, as well as workshops with industry experts and top filmmaking professionals sharing their practical advice to attending filmmakers. [Read more]

Cleveland International Film Festival

Submission deadline: July 31 (earlybird)
Festival dates: March 30 - April 10

Following two years of presenting successful online Festivals, CIFF is excited to return as an in-person event in the largest performing arts district in the U.S., outside of New York City. Information about any online component of the Festival will be announced at a later date. CIFF45 Streams (April 2021) presented 299 feature and short films from 63 countries to a national online audience of approximately 102,500 viewers. Through 34 various competitions, CIFF45 Streams included $114,500 in cash awards to filmmakers. [Read more]
