Finding your way
As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
That's why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.
Film Festivals
Cambridge Film Festival
Submission deadline: June 2 (earlybird)
Festival dates: November 18 - November 25
Established in 1977, the Cambridge Film Festival (CFF) has been committed to delivering high-quality independent films to the widest possible audience. Atlanta Film Festival
Submission deadline: June 10 (early)
Festival dates: April 21 - May 1
Now approaching its 46th year, the Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) is the Southeast’s preeminent celebration of cinema and the flagship production of the Atlanta Film Society. One of the largest and longest-running festivals in the country, ATLFF showcases the work of both emerging and established artists and is one of less than twenty US film festivals that is Academy Award®-qualifying in all three shorts categories: Narrative Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short. Recent festivals have seen audiences of over 28,000 film-lovers joining over 300 attending filmmakers in support of works that push the boundaries of independent cinema. [Read more]
Montréal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma
Submission deadline: June 1 (extended)
Festival dates: October 6 - October 17
A lively, bold, popular, innovative event! For 50 years, the FNC has been showcasing national and international auteur cinema, treating audiences to works of diversity and originality by emerging and major filmmakers. Our focus on the NEW is threefold: new creators, new approaches and new technologies. Dean of Canadian film festivals and a major Quebec event, the FNC presents every year over 200 works from 60 different countries to celebrate the best of today’s cinema. [Read more]
Chicago International Film Festival
Submission deadline: June 14
Festival dates: October 13 - October 24
The Chicago International Film Festival celebrates the best that cinema has to offer. Showcasing films from established masters and emerging storytellers, the Festival welcomes films from around the world. Offering an impressive selection of competitive and non-competitive programming, the Chicago International Film Festival brings films both domestic and international to silver screens in Chicago.
