Finding your way
As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
That's why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.
Film Festivals
Athens International Film and Video Festival
Submission deadline: November 1 (regular)
Festival dates: April 8 - April 14
Founded in 1974, the AIFVF has been presenting the best in international film for 49 years. Known globally as a festival that supports cinema from underground and marginalized populations, the AIFVF represents the values that we share as a community. Tribeca Festival
Submission deadline: November 3 (early)
Festival dates: June 8 - June 19
A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca Film Festival NYC, LLC (the “Festival”) supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences, and introduces new technology and ideas through panels, premieres, exhibitions, and live performance.[Read more]
Hong Kong International Film Festival
Submission deadline: November 11 (early)
Festival dates: March 31 - April 11
Annually screening over 200 titles from more than 50 countries in approximately 10 major cultural venues across the territory, the Festival is one of Hong Kong’s largest cultural events. The festival features world and international premieres of Hong Kong and Asian films, and Asian premiers of international films. The festival has maintained its founding premise of bringing films to local audiences that they might not be aware of, and of introducing Hong Kong, Chinese language, and Asian films to the world. New York International Children's Film Festival
Submission deadline: November 15 (late deadline for shorts)
Festival dates: February 25 - March 20
Winners of the Festival's juried prizes are eligible for consideration at the annual Academy Awards®. Audience awards are presented in each film category, with audience members of all ages voting on the Festival-winning films. NYICFF receives major editorial coverage in The New York Times, and its Best of the Fest programs tour to major museums, arthouse theaters and film festivals across the U.S. [Read more]
