Finding your way

As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

That's why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

New York International Children's Film Festival

Submission deadline: September 1 (early)
Festival dates: February 25 - March 20

The Oscar®-qualifying New York Int’l Children’s Film Festival, the largest film festival for children and teens in North America, will be celebrating 25 extraordinary years of screenings, special events, filmmaker spotlights, inventive and intelligent films, and discovery in 2022. Flickerfest International Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: September 10 (regular)
Festival dates: January 14 - January 22

Celebrating its 31st year in 2022, Flickerfest has grown to become Australia's leading competitive International Short Film Festival celebrating masterful, creative and impactful storytelling and the most original voices from filmmakers across the globe. Flickerfest will screen in January 2022 under the stars over 10 days in the peak of the Australian summer at the iconic Bondi Beach with select highlights of the festival touring to 50+ venues Australia wide.[Read more]

Vancouver International Women in Film Festival

Submission deadline: September 11 (late)
Festival dates: March 8 - March 13

Now in its 17th year, the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival (VIWFF) showcases an impressive line-up of short and feature-length films (narrative, documentary, experimental and animation) by established and emerging women filmmakers from around the world. This six day celebration is organized by Women in Film and Television Vancouver, a member-driven not-for-profit society which addresses systemic barriers to women’s equal participation in the production and dissemination of screen-based media. Atlanta Film Festival

Submission deadline: September 30 (regular)
Festival dates: April 21 - May 1

Now approaching its 46th year, the Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) is the Southeast’s preeminent celebration of cinema and the flagship production of the Atlanta Film Society. One of the largest and longest-running festivals in the country, ATLFF showcases the work of both emerging and established artists and is one of less than twenty US film festivals that is Academy Award®-qualifying in all three shorts categories: Narrative Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short. Recent festivals have seen audiences of over 28,000 film-lovers joining over 300 attending filmmakers in support of works that push the boundaries of independent cinema. [Read more]
