Finding your way
As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
That is why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.
Film Festivals
Heartland International Film Festival
Submission deadline: July 9 (extended deadline)
Festival dates: October 5-15, 2023

New York Shorts International Film Festival
Submission deadline: July 14 (regular deadline)
Festival dates: October 13 - 20, 2023
Last year's New York Shorts International Film Festival featured over 340 short films, special events, talks, retrospectives films, and tributes with honored guests, establishing New York Shorts as one of the finest exhibitions of short films in North America. Now in our 12th year, New York Shorts International Film Festival is the largest short film festival on the East Coast. San Diego International Film Festival
Submission deadline: July 21 (extended deadline)
Festival dates: October 18 - 22, 2024
The 22nd Annual San Diego International Film Festival (October 18-22) will present over 100 independent films plus studio premieres along with high profile events and panels. This Festival has been named San Diego’s Best Film Festival for the past 6 years and is continuing to grow its influence as an important stop on the awards circuit due to its October timing and its proximity to Hollywood. Sundance Film Festival
Submission deadline: July 31 (early deadline shorts)
Festival dates: January 18 - 28, 2024
The Sundance Film Festival brings together the most original storytellers and the most adventurous audiences for its annual program of dramatic, documentary, and short films; New Frontier films, performances, exhibitions, and virtual reality experiences; episodic storytelling; lively filmmaker conversations and panel discussions; and dynamic music events.
