Finding your way

As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. It can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

That is why CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that, we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Vienna Shorts 

Submission deadline: January 5 (regular deadline)
Festival dates: May 28-June 2, 2024

Vienna Shorts is the international short film festival in Vienna. The presentation of short films and the exchange about them are the main focus. The festival is organized by the association Independent Cinema and shows about 300 productions under 30 minutes. The competition is structured in four categories, for each of which separate entries can be submitted. Other sections include portraits and thematically curated programs. [Read more]

Open City Documentary Festival

Submission deadline: January 12 (regular deadline)
Festival dates: April 20-30, 2024

Open City Documentary Festival creates an open space in London to nurture and champion the art of non-fiction cinema. Based at the UCL Centre for Public Anthropology, we deliver training programmes, an annual documentary festival, the bi-annual Non-Fiction journal and events throughout the year that aim to challenge and expand the idea of documentary in all its forms.[Read more]

Dallas International Film Festival

Submission deadline: January 29 (regular deadline)
Festival dates: April 26 – May 2 2024

DIFF 2024, the 18th annual Dallas International Film Festival, will screen the best narrative and documentary features and short films from across the globe. The 18th annual Dallas International Film Festival doesn’t just screen films. The interaction between story tellers, audiences and the Texas community is what we strive to develop both during the festival and throughout the year. [Read more]

The Norwegian Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: February 1 (international deadline)
Festival dates: June 12-16, 2024

Kortfilmfestivalen / The Norwegian Short Film Festival is Norway's only Academy Award® qualifying film festival with a competition programme for Norwegian and international short films and documentaries, and Norwegian music videos. Norwegian films also qualify for consideration for the national Amanda Award. [Read more]
