Winners Euregion Film Forum 2023 announced

Professionals Jury and Audience decided on the winners.

The eighth edition of Euregion Film Forum was, in one word, fantastic. This edition took place in the Lumière Cinema in Maastricht from March 2 till March 4. Filmmakers, guest speakers and the audience were offered a dynamic program full of interesting talks, multiple networking moments, films and much more. The professionals jury decided on the winners. The audience voted for their favorite Made in Euregion film live during the screening.

Jury

This year the professionals jury had to hand out awards for the films in the International and Made in Limburg Short Film Competition: Best Euregion Film, Best Film and Special Jury Prize. Members of the jury were Director Luca Meisters from The Netherlands, producer Anna Weber from Germany and Belgian director Patrick Tass.

Award winners

    • Best Euregion Film –  Grandma’s Chillies by Max Jacoby & Pattrawan Sukmongkol
Jury statement: "The film that caught our attention manages to capture the loneliness through its composition, work on the light and nothing but silence and some phone calls. The work of the sound and the rythm made us feel the constant impossible seeking to bridge the distance that one goes through, dealing with very complex notions of home and grief. The Best Euregion Short Film goes to Grandma’s chillies by Max Jacoby and Pattrawan Sukmongkol."
    • Special Jury Mention Prize – Against All Odds by Laurenz Otto
Jury Statement: "We wanted to give a special mention to a film that stroke us right away with its film language. The way it is making use of gestures and long shots with great details rather than focussing on plot is an interesting way of storytelling. The film that intrigued us and got us thinking is Against All Odds by Laurenz Otto."
    • Audience Award – Blue Rain by Jet Kragt
The votes were tight, but the sensitive and moving story about Saar and her stillborn baby touched the hearts of the Made in Euregion Short Film Competition audience.
