Filmmaker Sophie Olga de Jong has been selected for CineSud’s Dutch Film Talents to Cannes program with her animated short in development, At the Edge of the Woods. Through this program, CineSud supports emerging filmmakers in taking the next step in their careers by connecting them to the international film industry during the Festival de Cannes.

From Pitch to Cannes

Her selection follows her participation in the Dutch Short Film Pitch, where her project was recognized as Best Film Plan. As part of this trajectory, she receives a tailored mentoring session within the framework of the Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry, industry initiative led by the Festival de Cannes under the banner of Cinéma de Demain. This session, and her participation in the forum event, is designed to further strengthen the project's artistic and strategic development and position it within an international context.

A National Talent Pipeline

The Dutch Short Film Pitch, a joint initiative by Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen and Screen Talent NL, plays a key role in identifying and supporting emerging filmmakers in the Netherlands. Through this platform, Sophie Olga de Jong was able to present her project and position it within a professional context. Now in its third edition, the initiative continues to prove its value as a strong model for talent development, demonstrating how collaboration within the Dutch film sector can effectively support regional filmmakers.

Screen Talent NL is the national network of talent and production hubs in the Netherlands. Through these hubs, filmmakers are supported in taking the next step in their careers, including participation in international programs such as Dutch Film Talents to Cannes.

Building International Opportunities

Through CineSud’s program, Sophie Olga de Jong will travel to Cannes and take part in Cinéma de Demain, where she will meet international industry professionals and further develop the international potential of At the Edge of the Woods.

This trajectory, from national recognition at the Dutch Short Film Pitch to international exposure in Cannes, highlights the strength of a connected ecosystem in which Go Short, Screen Talent NL, CineSud and Cinéma de Demain work together to support filmmakers at crucial stages in their development.
