In this edition of our monthly column we present some interesting festival- and funding options whose submission deadlines are all in December. Don't hesitate and take a look!

Finding your way

As a filmmaker, some things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.

Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Festivals

Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film

Submission deadline: December 1
Festival dates: May 4 - May 9

The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is one of the most outstanding events for animated film worldwide. Tampere Film Festival

Submission deadline: December 1
Festival dates: March 10 - March 14

The Tampere Film Festival is ranked amongst the top three most important short film festivals in the world with the International Competition being amongst the most acknowledged short film competitions in the world. The International Competition is an Oscar®, BAFTA and EFA qualifying short film competition.  [Read more]

Academy Awards

Submission deadline: December 1
Festival dates: April 25

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences was founded in 1927 and is the world's preeminent movie-related organization, comprising more than 9,000 accomplished men and women working in cinema. [Read more]

DOK.fest München

Submission deadline: December 18
Festival dates: May 5 - May 16

On eleven days in May DOK.fest München presents over 150 international documentaries on the big screen at 20 partner venues in downtown Munich. The programme is divided into four main competitions and eight series. Since 2019, DOK.fest München has been the largest documentary film festival in Germany and has developed into one of the most relevant platforms for documentary film in Europe. Visions du Réel

Submission deadline: December 22
Festival dates: April 16 - April 24

Visions du Réel is one of the only Swiss film festivals to present a majority of its films as world or international premieres. The Festival is also a stepping stone for new talent. The prestigious Oscars and the European Film Awards academies have opened their doors to films screened at Visions du Réel. [Read more]
